Monday 3rd January saw Wally and family finally make it back from the east coast.
The next day, Wally advised us that as he’d been away for so long due to the floods, he would not be heading off again in the middle of the month as originally intended. His mum and dad would also be heading back to Tanamera on Monday 10th January.
As we were no longer required to care take the property it was agreed that we would finish on the Friday and head out on Saturday morning. Sheila and I opted to return to the caravan park at Ilfracombe as we wanted a bit of time to clean the van, pick up a few things in Longreach and plan the next phase of our adventure. So, a quick phone call at lunch time and we were sorted!
We headed off with Wally, Sally and Gus in the Prado for a tour of the property, so that they could see how things had gone since they’d been away. The afternoon was taken up fixing a section of fence that had been pushed over by the recent mass of water before looking after the chooks and picking up yet more mangos.
The next two days were spent finishing off tasks in the garden, planting trees, moving cattle back to paddocks, fixing fences and moving the pump engine to Carol’s in preparation for mustering if Wally could book an aircraft. In between all that we helped the Boss get his flat-bed truck going (it had been sitting at the side of the driveway for a couple of months with a brake problem) and then used the 2 Toyota Utes to pull it out of the sand when it got bogged on the way to the house!
Friday’s muster had to be put on hold as Wally couldn’t get hold of an aircraft so, we set to finishing a few last minute tasks in the garden, before spending the afternoon cleaning the worker’s cottage and packing the vehicles ready for our departure the next morning. We were invited over for dinner and enjoyed a very pleasant evening before heading back to bed.
Saturday 8th January 2011, and so begins the next adventure!!
Final preparations and hitch-up, extricate the rig from the worker’s paddock, bid farewell to Sally and Wally, and then it was off down the track via Fraser’s to the Silsoe Road, Longreach and on to the van park at Ilfracombe.
