Sheila spent the next few days visiting Queensland Health website trying to get a handle on all their forms and abbreviations so that she could hit the ground jogging if not running when she started at the hospital.
We did however take a day out on Thursday 26th and drove south to Moree in NSW, past the cotton fields. These are an amazing sight when the seed heads have formed, with huge swaths of white, like fields of snow. The cotton had now been picked and packed into huge bales and gets transported to the Cotton Gin for processing. We thought our trip to south of the boarder was either brave or foolhardy as Queensland had just trounced NSW in the first round of State of Origin 2011. Moree looked to be an OK place for shopping and at 240km, not too far from St. George. That night we felt the need for some exercise, so walked into town for a feed at the Cobb & Co.
Friday was also social as we headed out with Steve and Lorraine for a few drinks and a meal at one of St. George’s other watering holes, The St. George Hotel.
The next week saw us both start work. Both places are close to the van park, the hospital about 1km and the electrical store about 2.5km, so we’ve been getting our exercise walking to and from work. Our learning curves are pretty steep at present. Sheila hasn’t worked on a medical ward since her student days and I know very little about electrical goods other than as a consumer but we’ll get there in time. The good thing is that we both seem to be working with a decent bunch so fingers crossed.
The weather has been brilliant since we arrived in St. George, clear skies and warm sunny days; although it can get a bit cool at night, around 2 – 3degC, with only one exception, Tuesday 31st May, when it rained in the morning. So here we are approaching the second week of June 2011, officially into winter and with a foot back in the rat-race (but only just!!)
