The shake down trip - Part Three

This next part of the journey was an easy haul of only 174km westwards to Roma with a morning smoko stop at a nice little cafe in the township of Wallumbilla (found out that they do cheap powered van sites on the showground – maybe next time we pass through!).

It was raining as we pulled into Roma at around 1230, so it was a bit of a soggy set-up but we accomplished it pretty quickly as we are now starting to get into a routine. Despite the site being a drive-thru, it was pretty small and only just took our rig combo. The size of the site and an adjacent concrete slab (used to be an en-suite site) meant that we couldn’t anchor the awning so we elected not to deploy it at all, which wasn’t a problem as it was still raining and not too warm (12C). F@#*ing cold was Sheila’s comment!! The park was full as the Australian Photographic Society was having its annual meet over the next week or so. We walked the 2km into Roma town centre for a recce and to warm ourselves up and decided that a Chilli and some red wine was on the cards for the evening meal.

It was still raining the next morning, so a bit of a long lie and then a trip into town to purchase an adaptor for our “Next G” aerial so that we can get a better signal as we travel round. Probably more importantly, Sheila found a shop with a sale on Ugg boots. They were obviously of the opinion that winter was over and summer was on its way and were discounting winter stock, so Sheila got a bargain and now has warm fee and they had more space on their shelf. Then, it was a day of catching up on admin, paying bills, etc.. The weather outlook for the entire State didn’t look too good with lots of rain forecast for the next few days but it proved that our mighty Kedron was water-tight!!

Funny old thing it was still chucking it down and cold on Sunday morning, so our plan to get out and about had to be put in File 13. We were not alone, the guys with camper trailers looked a bit like drowned rats!! We decided that it was a good day to try the heating side of the air-con unit. We’re now warm as toast and the envy of many! Sheila did the IT thing and set up the Blog for our adventures, whilst I sat with the map books planning our return route to Brisbane for the vans suspension/wheel alignment check post shake-down.
