Finally the big day had arrived, Sunday 29th August 2010. There was no skulking off, Susan and Tony arrived to see us off, bless them. That morning saw the rain start as we headed off with Sandy driving, GPS plugged in and maps at the ready. The trip to Cardwell was hard work as the weather was awful with torrential rain. We wanted to get south of Townsville on the first day staying in Ayr overnight.
Monday we set off early managing to make it to Rockhampton, the weather was not too bad, a little overcast, but it was still raining heavily in Cairns. With the sun shining on Tuesday we headed to Childers with a stop at Bororen to stretch the legs. On the way down Sandy and I had been sharing the driving giving each of us a chance to spot the Kedron caravans along the way (spotted 3) and also to see the changes in the scenary from the lush green of Cairns to the more arid flat lands of mid Queensland coastline.
On Wednesday we drove to Gympie, taking a detour along the way to Tin Can Bay to have a look at the Dolphins (thanks Bastien for the heads up). We arrived in Gympie early afternoon, we were keen to have a bit of a lazy afternoon as we were to have a couple of bigs days with the two courses we had booked with Tony and Helke Nicholas, Towing/reversing a caravan on Thursday and 4WDing on Friday (beach and track).
Got into this ok, booked in and have just read the first installments, it is all just fantastic, hope you have some really wonderful adventures. Lee xxx
ReplyDeleteShould have offered you a professional (sic) navigator for this epic! He could have sat behind you, in a very small space, facing backwards and then there would have been a saving on a GPS system. On the other hand, a GPS system would not have drunk you out of house and home! So, keep the system.
