Sunday (26th) morning saw us driving back into St George to take a walk alongside the river which was well set out with paths, and exercise equipment. It also has an outside theatre/stage area set up. All in all St George, we thought was a lovely little town, well appointed, and as Kim said, very liveable.
After our walk alongside the river, we headed back to the car. We set off for a drive, south of St George to have a look at the countryside. We drove to
Noondoo, then onto
Thallon and
Nindigully and finally back to town, all round about 200km. The landscape was very pretty, but also very flat, also there was not much wildlife to see only the red breasted parrots.
Monday 27th, the start of a new week and a new destination, and possibly the hint of one or dramas; Sandy was just climbing in to the driver’s seat when our neighbouring caravanners asked where were we off to. We mentioned that we were heading to
Goondiwindi, which was met with much scowling and shaking of heads. “Not sure if you will get through” they cheerfully advised, “lots of road closures down that way after all the rains”. Not ones to be daunted (or maybe just stupid) we headed off down the road. Sure enough there was a lot of standing water at the side of the road and most of the creeks were flood, several of them across the road, but we managed to get through. Most of the roads in and out of Goondiwindi were closed however, we were just luck the one we were on was still open, however it was closed the next day.
We arrived in Goondiwindi at 12.20pm, with wet wheels after Sandy’s river crossings. We were staying in the Goondiwindi Top Tourist Park on the outskirts of the town. Good size drive thru powered sites, once again well appointed with camp kitchens, BBQ area, laundry, dump site etc. Our site was set up in no time, boy are we getting good at this and no damage during the journey.
