The shake down trip - Part Eight

Tuesday was a chore day with the laundry to do (to check Sandy’s plumbing repairs).

Wednesday 29th we explored Goondiwindi (I love saying that name); it is a good sized town situated alongside the McIntyre River (which was very full), not as picturesque as St George but certainly very nice, again well appointed with lots of sporting facilities and a lovely walk alongside the river, which Sandy and I did (6km there and back). We had a look around the main shopping street, then headed up to the Water Park, but the footpaths seemed closed and there were no maps. Well at least we tried.

Thursday 30th Sept saw us once more back on the road, leaving the caravan park at 10am after our coldest night so far (6 degrees in the van). Some of the roads around Goondiwindi were now open with care, and it just so happened one of those was ours (meant to be). We headed west on the Cunningham Highway to Warwick passing through Yelarbon and Inglewood on our way. Most of the flooding had been around the Yelarbon area and the road was a little worst for ware with some major potholes formed by the big road trains which travel along this road. After Inglewood though the road was pretty good, however the temperatures remained down, only about 19 degrees, and in St George and Goondiwindi up until last night we had been enjoying 27 to 29 degrees. As we got closer to Warwick the ranges started again giving very pleasant vistas. I am glad to say the climb to Warwick was nowhere near as bad as climbing the Toowoomba range. It was nice to see hills again after the flat lands we had just left.
