Friday was the start of a new month, 1st Oct, Sandy and I decided to set off to explore the region picking a route called ‘The Falls Drive’ south east of Warwick.
We set off just before lunch, driving through rolling countryside so reminiscent of the UK landscape. It looked like mixed farming dominated here with the patch work quilt effect of mixed crops and the dots of live stock in the fields. The temperature as we climbed dropped from 19 degrees to 16, hmm getting a bit chilly. We headed for a little town called Killarney, named by the early Irish settlers back in 1878. The Falls Drive started from here climbing into the hills behind the village. Our plan was to head to the Queen Mary Falls grab a coffee, walk and photos.
What a great place and a great drive with some great views. The temperature was a little cool, but this is probably a good idea when walking. Our couple of walks along the riverbanks in some of the towns had been a little warm. We arrived at the car park and coffee shop at the falls, ordered a coffee and lunch and took some photos of the locals, and why not, they were so pretty and very obviously knew how to strike a pose.
Suitable fortified we headed off on the 2km walk to see the Queen Mary Fall, a 40m waterfall which winds its way down to the valley floor joining the Condamine river. This is a nice walk with a steep walk (steps in places) down to the base of the falls and a more meandering climb on the other side to climb back out to the picnic area and car park at the top of the falls. All in all very pleasant, I was pleased to see that Sandy and I managed this easily (the climb) without getting too puffed and did not need to stop, other than to take the obligatory photos and gasps (of admiration) for the scenery.
